These 3 activities gives your students some GREAT chances to check their understanding of IMFs (Intermolecular Forces). Given a grid with 2 chemical formulas in each square, students color only the squares that would form certain IMFs between the two chemicals.
This handout includes 2 grids. For the top grid, students color only the squares that contain 2 chemicals that would form a dipole-dipole force. If they color it correctly, it reveals a smiley face! The bottom grid can be colored two different ways. Color all of the squares that would form hydrogen bonds to reveal an image (hat) or color all of the squares that would form London forces to reveal a letter (W).
Bonus Ideas: Put this activity in a sheet protector and have students use a dry erase marker to color the squares. Simply erase and reuse for the next activity! Have students complete this activity in small groups to maximize cooperative learning!
This product comes in WORD format, so it's easily edited. It includes an answer key.
