Internet Safety & Research Methods (Grades 6 - 12 or Adult Education!)
This unit tricks students into researching false facts about something that doesn't exist on the web and intrigues them with convincing graphics. After this short exercise the students learn they have been tricked, and realize the beginning phases of image editing, and the value of controlled research from a valid source.
I use this unit to motivate my students for the Adobe Photoshop curriculum after we cover Microsoft & Research Methods. It also preps the kids to question what they see prior to putting evidence, research, and true empirical knowledge into all their reports.
Included are the following:
note: As a bundle I also provide the "North Pacific Tree Octopus" Exercise" & "Fake Website Guideline" which discusses spoof websites and phishing websites. Also discussed is protection of identity, and how to question what you read in hard & soft copy always from a valid source.
