Use the authentic language found in catch pop hit "Elle me dit" by Mika to help your beginning French students practice their adjectives and family members vocabulary in this interpretive listening activity.
After students have listened to the song (can currently be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiHWwKC8WjU) they will hone their listening skills to find the missing words (descriptive adjectives like "vieille" and "grand" and family terms like "enfant" and "père" ).
Next, students will use the authentic text to learn new vocabulary words that are found in the song, looking for cognates to enrich their vocabulary and to build off of words they know. Then they will use the words in context to help them discover the meaning of the song.
Finally, they will practice their descriptive skills to describe themselves and talk about their families.
-Family member vocabulary
-Describing hair and eye color
My 7th and 8th grade students are huge Mika fans. This song should be a staple in any French teacher's repertoire!
