In this activity, your students will watch a short, authentic language video on youtube about where to go shopping in Paris. This exercise will hone their listening skills, helping them to pick out key words instead of trying to understand every word they hear.
First students will match a description of certain neighborhoods in Paris with descriptions from the video. Then they will listen again, checking off the ideas that they hear mentioned. After listening to the video, they will be asked a few discussion questions about their own clothing preferences and shopping habits.
This listening activity is appropriate for intermediate students with some prerequisite knowledge of shopping terms and clothing. I use it in my 8th grade class, usually playing the video about 5 times and using the check off what you hear section to check for comprehension. At the end, we discuss the speaking questions and share answers!
