As a "get-to-know-you" activity, I had my seventh graders conduct interviews. I found some great videos and articles of interviews on the Sports Illustrated for Kids website and used those as examples. After some mini- lessons on surface versus in-depth questions, how to ask follow up questions, and taking notes during the interview, the students were paired up to interview each other. They then took their interviews and wrote articles about a classmate. This helped me teach leads, transitions, and strong conclusions. I felt like this helped me cover so much in the first week of school!
