This lesson can be combined at the same time with interviewing American writers and artists from transcendentalism and individualism. One being for boys and the other for girls. Students in pairs (interviewer and interviewee) will present and interview a woman pioneer or a former slave woman gaining freedom in the west. Students wil
become better acquainted with historical figures through research and role playing. Develop interview and research strategies in orders to reveal a persons achievements, personality, and point of view. Through creative role playing, students will be able to identify common themes women faced.
