PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Charlemagne and Alfred the Great were the two greatest kings of the ninth century for the Franks and Anglo-Saxons respectively. They were the models for all subsequent kings on the European continent and in England and knowledge of them is essential for an understanding of the medieval world. In alignment with Common Core’s stress on the use of primary sources the students will be reading either the Life of Charlemagne by Einhard or the Life of Alfred the Great by Asser, men who knew them and worked with them as their secretaries. From these primary sources the students will be creating an interview with either Charles the Great or Alfred the Great.
