This 35-page document contains the materials necessary for a great discussion on perspectives and viewpoints. Who was Chris McCandless? Was he wise beyond his years? Was he an arrogant upper class young 20 something? Was he a messiah? Was he plain stupid and unprepared? There are so many unanswered questions, and the student packet will take the upper level student through this intellectual discovery. The document includes a student study guide, some teacher materials, essay topics, and a final unit test and answer key for the matching section. The student study guide will focus on comparisons between McCandless and his father, Siddhartha, Henry David Thoreau, and the device of the literary hero. Also included are worksheets for journal writing, a place for plot and discussion notes, characterization, how to make an effective comparison, the literary hero's journey, and Eddie Vedder lyrics from the movie. If you're interested in movie materials, please visit my other products. The teacher materials include a list summary of the plot, and discussion topics with page numbers to follow for class discussion. To be clear, the notes for the teacher are merely my notes, but do not tell you how to have the discussions, what to say, or how to structure the lesson for discussion. I've also included 2 articles for the teacher or to share with the students titled, "Civil Disobedience" and "The Parallel Lives of Chris McCandless and Siddhartha." Please be advised that the document includes plenty of materials and topics to cover, but it does not outline lessons and tell the teacher how to use the materials. Please also be aware that there are some teacher notes available, as specified above, but I have not included "answers" for the student study guide. This will allow the teacher who buys this to put his/her own creative touch on the unit, and focus on what interests him/her. I think you will be pleased with the materials available to you. Thank you for your interest.
