To test students' understand of Jon Krakauer's novel Into the Wild, students must discuss five of the nine quotations provided on this exam (editable Word document, change to nine of nine if necessary). Students must identify who said the quotation (4 points), in what context (brief summary of what happened shortly before and after this quotation) (4 points), and the significance of the quotation (12 points). This identifies whether or not the students READ the NOVEL, but also their understanding of important themes, characterization, genre, stylistic choices, et cetera.
