PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students will make their own AP English Language and Composition synthesis prompt for Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer addressing the question "Is Chris McCandless insane for deserting his material goods and running away to the Alaskan wilderness?" Students will find their own five sources using online databases and create an annotated bibliography to explain how the sources could be used to address the question. Students must balance the sources so that the question could be answered from either perspective ("yes, he is insane" or "no, he is not insane"). Students will also identify how they could use the text itself to answer this question both ways. This assignment teaches students how to research, document using MLA, persuade, analyze author's purpose, synthesize, cite text, and debate an issue from both sides. It also assesses students' understanding of Into the Wild.
