In this introductory lesson students will evaluate the components of a civilization to determine what constitutes the ideas of “barbaric” and “civilized.” Students will decode the term, “Civilization” and analyze images in a gallery walk to create an Anchor Chart or participate in a group brainstorm in which they answer the essential question using evidence they have gathered. Students will use this as a base for understanding that civility and civilizations come in many forms. This lesson includes:
