This lesson is a great way to kick off your decimal unit. It is designed to help students understand the meaning of a decimal through the tenths place. Students will connect decimals to pictures and to the equivalent fractions that go with them.
A large part of this lesson as students filling in tables with word form, decimal form, fraction form, and picture form where one piece is given and they are asked to find the other three. This helps build knowledge of equivalency that will help them throughout your decimal unit.
The unit is best for 4th - 6th grade depending on your students prior knowledge of decimals. It is designed to be at a more basic level to give students the foundational skill that will need in later lessons.
The lesson includes:
-Teacher Lead Examples
-Partner Practice Set
-Two pages of Independent Practice
-Challenge page for early finishers
