This is a double-sided notes page used to introduce exponential functions and compare them to linear and quadratic functions.
The notes begin by having the student graph 3 functions that look alike, but are different. One is linear, one is quadratic and the third one is exponential. (See preview) They use their calculator to help them and then fill in a table of values as well. The student is then asked to analyze the graphs and the table of values to determine what type of function each one is.
Next, the student is asked to fill in a table of values and graph by hand another exponential function. Next, they identify the domain, range and horizontal asymptote - all lead by the teacher. (See preview)
Next, the student uses their calculator again to analyze four different exponential functions (two are increasing, two are decreasing). The student is asked to describe what the graphs have in common and how they are different (growth or decay).
Next, the student is given six examples where they have to determine if the graph, equation or table of values is that of a linear, quadratic or exponential function.
Finally, the notes include two word problems examples. Both examples include the equation to be plugged into the calculator. All the student has to do is use the table feature to find the answer. (See preview) Key included.
