This is a Word docx. The first page is introductory notes in the form of terms, definitions and color pictures of a mushroom and mold grown in a petri dish. I project this first page onto my board, and the students take down these notes in their notebooks. I go over all notes when the students are done, including the pictures. This is fun stuff!
The second and third page is an assignment based on these notes that the students just wrote in their notebooks. The student will also need to research the internet to find pictures of varying types of fungi and to research how penicillin was discovered. The second page of the assignment involves using a website to find the 'Fungus of the Month'. The students use their birthday month to research this information. There is also a drag and drop of parts of a mushroom. My students love this activity! The fourth and fifth page is the answer KEY to the assignment.
This is an electronic assignment that is completed on a laptop or computer and submitted via a drop box such as Black Board or Schoology. However, it can also be printed out and used as a paper copy as well with little to no modification of the original document. Gotta love Word!
My electronic documents do not have lines to type answers. I use red asterisks on the document wherever an answer should be placed. The student places their cursor between the two red asterisks and begins typing. The answers show up in red. This way the student can easily see that they've answered the question and I can easily grade it because I'm looking for the red typing. Easy!
