Students need to enter class and become engaged immediately. This allows the teacher to take attendance and deal with other situations in the opening minutes of class, and at the same time, sets the stage for learning.
This product offers 5 days of bellwork, bell ringer, do-now activities on genetics. Basic vocabulary such as genetics, alleles, gene and traits are defined. By Wednesday, students are introduced to phenotype, genotype and Punnett squares. Homozygous and heterozygous alleles are introduced on Thursday.
Each day there is an activity for the student to do when they enter class. An answer key is included for day 2 - 5 (day 1 does not require an answer key). Additional discussion questions for Wednesday help you to set the stage for the class lesson. By the end of the week students are creating and analyzing single trait test crosses.
Project the pdf for each day on the screen. Give students 5-10 minutes to complete the activity, then go over their work using the answer key on the subsequent page. A bellwork sheet is available in my products list if you are interested in giving students a grade for their participation and/or answers. Its an easy way to hold students accountable for their daily work using one sheet of paper for 5 days of work.
