This lesson is meant to be used as guided notes for a whole class, with a fun activity at the end.
Students begin by learning what a polynomial is and what makes something a monomial, binomial, and trinomial. They then learn what makes something NOT a polynomial. After learning about "degree" and "leading coefficient", students learn how to put polynomials into standard form. The end of the second page is an introduction to algebra tiles, and the final page is a fun activity to help students get comfortable with algebra tiles. They are told to create certain pictures (robot, giraffe, etc.) using specific polynomials. *How the students represent negative terms is up to the teacher. Students have a lot of fun with this activity.
The last 3 pages are a copy of the key, though the answers to the algebra tile activity will vary with each student.
