How is Marijuana and Heroin especially harmful to teens? Considering the recent surge in the abuse of these two drugs among the teenage population, your students need to know about the dangerous side effects of Heroin and Marijuana. After listening to and reading new pieces of research, students will learn about how marijuana is now being linked to the development of schizophrenia and how heroin basically tricks your body into shutting down. Students will then demonstrate these new findings by creating an "anti-ad" of the drugs.
Throughout the lesson students will:
1) Respond to a Bell Ringer video clip that makes them consider why people would ever use a more lethal form of heroin called "Krokodil."
2) Listen to and answer questions from two audio recordings detailing the particular dangers that Marijuana and Heroin use presents to teens.
3) Analyze recent studies about further hazards that result from these two drugs.
4) Create an anti-ad directed at teens that demonstrates students' learning of how the use of Marijuana and Heroin can negatively impact a high school students' life.
***Bonus**** Very interesting 20 minute video clip about the dangers of marijuana.
