This PPT outlines the strategies used in rhetoric. I use this PPT in conjunction with a handout that lists the most commonly used rhetorical devices, which has the detailed definitions of each term. This productive is most effective when combined with that handout or when students are already familiar with the definitions of the devices, as the definitions are not included on the slides of this PPT.
CONCEPTS COVERED IN PPT INCLUDE:
--Why we should care about rhetoric
--Stylistic and structural techniques (parallelism, anaphora, repetition, syntax)
--Tone and diction (connotations, denotations, qualifiers, figurative language)
--Comparisons and contrasts (use of allusions, analogies, paradox, oxymoron, juxtaposition)
--Humor and shock (parody, satire, hyperbole, oxymoron)
--Thesis, synthesis, claim, and discourse
I follow it up with another PPT on Aristotle's Rhetorical Triangle and logical fallacies, which is another product at my TPT store.
