Instead of lecturing and/or spending multiple periods introducing this novel, I instead use this student-centered activity that allows students to actively engage sources/artifacts to build schema for reading The Great Gatsby. Students "flow" from station to station at their own pace collaborating with their peers to answer guiding questions for each station. The stations include the following: (1) an analysis of Cugat's cover, (2) an analysis of an "alternative" cover (see the product image), (3) a short biography on Scott and Zelda, (4) a short video clip overview of the 1920s with the unit's essential questions, (5) six discussion questions on love, money, and the American Dream, and (6) a retired AP Lang & Comp FRQ #3 prompt that relates so well to the novel.
