This lesson is excellent at the beginning of the year for building classroom culture and for teaching students resistance from a critical perspective. The Transformative Resistance framework lists four modes of resistant behaviors students display throughout the school year: Self-Defeating, Reactionary, Conformist, and Transformative Resistance.
The framework allows you and your students to norm on language to describe oppositional behavior. It's also a great lens into understanding how oppressed people react to oppressive systems. Perfect for a literacy lesson at the secondary level. It's an excellent resource for social justice, critical educators at the secondary or post-secondary level.
