Visual Culture is a hot topic in art education today. Use these files to get your students engaging in aspects of visual culture, thinking critically, and recognizing their personal life experiences' roles in their perceptions of art.
This is a ZIP file that includes:
1. Visual Culture/Transformation PowerPoint
25 slides that work alongside the additional packets; includes student examples of transformation in visual culture--images, online videos (hyperlinked) included.
2. Visual Culture Packet--in both PDF and Publisher formats
This is a PDF that includes 9 pages. The first page is an overview with definition of visual culture, including images of examples of major components of American visual culture today. The second page is a student response sheet that asks students to look at vintage advertisements (7 included!) and consider the perceived meaning, the intended meaning, and the changes in society, culture, and age that have led to these perceptions.
3. Transformation in Visual Culture Packet--in both PDF and Publisher formats
5 pages, including written response prompts regarding students' understandings of transformation and brief research assignment that asks them to analyze one aspect of visual culture that has transformed over time. An in-depth example on the transformation of Barbie is included.
Make art MEANINGFUL! This engages students and gets them to begin to think critically about things they visually encounter every day.
