This is a "flow" lesson that requires students to move around the room and visit six stations that focus on helping students build schema for understanding the historical context of Maus. Students then answer questions at each station. The six stations include the following: an interactive tour of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, an analysis of how imagery conveys purpose in a painting of Holocaust victims, a poem written by a child in a concentration camp, a website with important information about the Holocaust, and a station where students find answers to compelling questions about why the Holocaust occurred.
