Word problems can be confusing for all kids, especially when more than one step is involved. I decided to add a little excitement and flair to my 2-step word problems by turning it into a Halloween themed lesson. This lesson set is complete with a guided practice, an independent practice, a check for understanding, and an opportunity to apply student learning through creating their own word problems. Some differentiation available through picture problems and word problems, as well as those options on the create your own part.
I gave my students pink and purple nerds to solve these word problems, and candy corn to create their own word problems later on. Whenever it came time for things to disappear, or objects to leave or go home, my students were able to eat the nerds that were leaving. They really loved this activity!
Nearly all of the clip art is Melonheadz Clipart I found on google images, and all fonts are from the fabulous Amy Groesbeck. (If you don't have her growing bundle, you are missing out!)
