A great way to introduce short division to our Level 4s and our extension Level 3s. After revising basic division and the connection between multiplication and division, we then moved onto teaching short division.
Here are two worksheets to help consolidate the process of teaching short division. We felt that to begin with it was necessary for the numbers to go in evenly, then slowly introduce carry overs. This then moves into long division where remainders come into play and it all becomes REALLY hard! Thankfully we can just focus on short division for now.
Worksheets are always much better when they have a purpose and these do. Student are required to crack the code in order to solve two crimes. In our grades - this was the highlight! The sheets include an example that students can refer back to if they are in anyway unsure.
If you like these, check out my checklists - I promise more are coming! Just had to get this year underway.
