I created this because I was looking for a way to build an atmosphere of trust while also teaching them the basics of a good speech in a manageable time frame. It also forces them to think about what they are going to say by making them think of things that represent them.
I designed this to take only one class session to introduce. I would pass out the template and give an example speech with 5 objects representing me (in 2-3 minutes, of course). Then I would give them the rest of the period to brainstorm. The rest can be done outside class. I would give them a few days to prepare. The amount of time for presenting would depend on the length of class sessions and length of the class. I would also have at least five students evaluate each other's speeches so that they get used to giving constructive feedback. (I make copies on different colored paper and distribute 5 of one color each day, 5 of another, etc. Then I tell them they evaluate if they have the blue sheet so that students cannot chose who evaluates them.)
