Product Description
This activity can be used to introduce a unit, novel, or story that focuses on the theme of how people should treat one another. I have used it as a kick-off for an novel study of Rules by Cynthia Lord and also before reading the short stories "Eleven" and "All Summer in a Day." Students are given scenarios with a variety of conflicts and must respond by describing how they would want others to treat them in this circumstance. Can be used as a group activity or students can work individually. The activity ends with a discussion of the Golden Rule. This is a great way to integrate character lessons into the classroom and help students to consider how it would feel to be in someone else's shoes, which is a major component in building empathy and affecting students' treatment of one another.
