This is a course in composition suitable for advanced high school students and college students. It includes exercises, quizzes, short readings and essay assignments. It is best taught using the Socratic method — asking questions as a way to lead students to their own answers.
Each week’s lessons can easily be divided between one, two or three days per week. If this is a daily course (in high school, for example), additional opportunities for textual analysis should be included and I will offer you some of these each week. For example, I will take a short text or excerpt from the week’s news sites and offer questions you can ask the students about it — focusing on the rhetoric, the composition, the grammar (there are plenty of mistakes to find even in prominent publications these days!), and so forth.
