This is a PowerPoint presentation designed to introduce ESL students to American English and Culture. It contains fifteen slides on American speech, regional accents, communication styles, and body language. Several pages concentrate on language that is likely to be used in American classrooms. There are also two slides introducing American Culture, and 2 welcome slides that give information on Chicago. Many hyperlinks are embedded so that students can click on words and pictures to link to helpful websites, videos, and practice pages. This presentation can be used to teach a class whole-group and might take 2-3 days of 1 hour lessons, if you visit all the hyperlinks and stop to have discussions. You can also have students work through it on their own or revisit it to review and learn more about American English. I have more PowerPoint Presentations designed for ESL/ELL students (and a few worksheets) that will go along with this PowerPoint.
