These 5 collaborative games are meant to be done in groups or as a whole class to help students understand the importance of proper communication and listening skills, along with team work and leadership.
Many of these activities are inspired by my experiences as a camp counselor during summer months. Usually, they would bring even the most difficult campers together by giving them something they could both relate to and work towards together.
I usually do 1 or 2 of these at the beginning of the year to build community in my classes. I actually do all of these and more for my speech class throughout the year. It is something fun that gives them a break from standing in front of the class, yet teaches them basic skills in an entertaining and memorable way. My students still ask me about once a week when we will do another activity like the ones in this packet.
The games include:
The Human Knot with a "Twist"
Let Me Tell You About ME!
The Paper Airplane Challenge
