Doing current events in your class is a great way to teach students how to be responsible consumers of news media and keep them informed about the world around them.
In this "Introduction to Current Events" lesson plan, students will learn how to use the Internet to conduct current event research; and summarize and analyze a current event news article.
This lesson includes a copy of my "Current Event Reporting Form"! My form asks students to summarize a news article, reflect on it, and even tie it to course content. It comes ready to print, copy, and use. It even features a scoring rubric. The reporting form is provided in .docx format so that you can customize it to fit your needs perfectly.
This lesson plan addresses both Common Core and NCSS (National Council for the Social Studies) standards.
While current events are most often done in social studies classrooms, science, art, music, and ELA classes can also benefit from them!
