I made this slideshow to use as a multi-media approach to introducing my 4th graders to division. It is intended to promote and be used in conjunction with teacher explanation, class discussion, and student exploration.
The show walks students through what division is/means. It progresses through comparing division to other operations, especially multiplication. Lastly, there are slides that are intended to go along with student exploration of manipulatives, so you will want to have counters, beans, etc. on hand. Exploration covers both remainders and problems without remainders. The show does not cover the division algorithm, but rather the focus is on getting students to understand what division is.
This served as a nice springboard into further exploration of division.
