This lesson addresses the five basic characteristics of a civilization and the four dynamics needed for civilizations to effectively stand. (Government, resources, economics, and laws.) The lesson covers the following vocabulary words, civilization, ziggurat, institution, artisan, and scribe. The lesson has an activity that allows the students to look at our own civilization (America) and find these key features. This activity sets up the students to look for theses dynamics in all and or future societies and be able to assess the extent to which the society is an effective civilization. The lesson includes aim, do now, mini lesson, notes, vocabulary, activity, and exit slip. The power point allows the teacher to edit the lesson for her/his individual students.
