This mini bundle is part of 4.NF.1 and it is an introduction to Fractions and Equivalent Fractions. It is equivalent to 2 - 3 math lessons. The PowerPoint 'Equivalent Fractions and Comparing Fractions' included covers all of NF.1
and all the slides from the PowerPoints can be printed to make wall charts or mini booklets.
★Why Not Save Even More! – this mini bundle is a part of the Full 4.N.F.1 Bundle, 5 Lesson Plans, 20 Individual Resources, all for under $20
I have purposely created all of my resources from the ground up to specifically cover the required standards, and I incorporate math language, deeper thinking discussions and connections to the real world in most of the lessons. My manipulatives (hands on activities) give student the ability to see math visually and mentally as well as touch the materials used in math.
Each Lesson Plan includes the CCSS, the Mathematical Practices used in this lesson, the objectives, the "I can statements" for the children, PowerPoint to teach or revise from, an introduction to the lesson, the whole class lesson which will always include manipulatives, independent work in the shape of practice sheets, reflective journal entry, and a fast finishers activity or game, most often a game. Resources can also be easily converted into math centers.
You will never run out of something to keep your students occupied and motivated. I will always include more! I had to always look for something more to supplement the lesson, usually when my school wanted to use text books and that's why I fill my lessons up with lots of resources! Busy minds, happy class!
In addition to 2 Full Lesson Plans, this mini bundle includes the following 9 resources:
Equivalent Fractions and Comparing Fractions Powerpoint
This PowerPoint covers all of NF.1 and all the slides from the PowerPoint can be printed to make wall charts or mini booklets. This PowerPoint offers three pages of vocabulary definitions to put up on your wall and to revise with your students. Two pages with how to workout equivalent fractions, to project on the whiteboard and go through with your students.
This PowerPoint also shows 5 ways to compare fractions: fractions with the same numerator, same denominator, comparing fractions with same size area model, knowing your fractions and the butterfly method.
This PowerPoint can be used as a teaching resource to project on your whiteboard or print out and make a mini booklet for the students to study with.
How to find Equivalent Fractions using Multiplication PowerPoint
I’ve created this PowerPoint to help teachers show their students how to find and make equivalent fractions by multiplying the top and bottom. Six of the slides show fractions 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6 & 1/8 and four equations per fraction to convert into an equivalent fractions. Fractions are shown as circular models or area models.
Think Puzzle Explore Question & Discussion for Equivalent Fraction Activity
This activity is a routine that stimulates students prior knowledge, helps to generate their thinking, verbalise ideas and prepares them for deeper investigation. This activity has been organized around Equivalent Fractions.
Included is a page explaining the routine and why it is helpful, images to start the conversation/discussion, and questions to develop deeper thinking and connections to everyday life.
This activity also encourages setting up a discussion wall with the students responses, where they can go back and revise their thinking or gain new insight to what others are thinking.
Working Out Equivalent Fractions Worksheet
The worksheet includes working out equivalent fractions on a number line and with area models . The first page allows the students to see the same fraction on the number line and the model and the second page helps the students visualize the fractions 1/2, 1/3 & 1/4 and four or more of their equivalent fractions. Worksheets have answer keys for you or the students to mark.
Fraction Wall Anchor Chart (poster) 1/2, 1/3 & 1/5
There is a chart showing all the equivalent fractions for 1/2 (which includes 1/4 & 1/8 & 1/16), 1/3 (which includes 1/6, 1/9 & 1/12) and 1/5 (which includes 1/10, 1/15 & 1/20). Each of the charts also include a line from the benchmark fraction through the equivalent fractions. All charts are colourful and ready to print, laminate and stick to your math walls or hand out to students to glue in their math journals.
Fraction Wall Booklet - Fraction Manipulative/Hands On
This is a manipulative that helps the students visualize the size of fractions compared to their equivalent counterparts. Each of the fractions (from 1 whole to 1/12) has it's own corresponding page.
The student cut the cover and the fraction pages and staple or glue the sheets on top of each other so that when they flick through the booklet, they can see each of the fractions and the size of each fraction.
Each fraction sheet also has an area where the students can draw other equivalent fraction that match.
Equivalent Fraction Dominoes Game
This game is suited as an introduction to equivalent fractions as the students have to find and match equivalent fractions only, using area models.
This game includes full instructions and 28 dominoes. Best played in pairs or in small groups. Great for those fast finishers in the class.
Matching Equivalent Fractions Worksheet and Answer Key
This worksheet requires the students to match the fraction as a model with the required equivalent fraction also as a model. The twist is that if they match correctly they will find the answer to the riddle. Learning while having fun!!
Worksheets have answer key for you or the students to mark.
Reflective Journal Sheet
This reflective journal sheet can be used across all math lessons as it is designed to be very general in nature but can provide excellent feedback for you, the teacher! The feedback received will help you see if the topic needs to be revisited or they are ready to move on. Of course, not all students will be ready at the same time but it will give you an insight to where they are at and who will need more small group attention. I often try to get the students to reflect on their learning everyday but definitely at the end of a topic.
The 2 Individual PowerPoint Resources in this bundle include 2 separate files:
A PowerPoint file where all pages are images – so you will NOT NEED to download any additional fonts – but you can’t edit the pages.
A PowerPoint file that is fully editable, so you can make any changes that you wish. In order to view this file you will need the Fonts below, all are free and you can download them via the links below:
