Forum Theatre is an interactive form of theatre created by Augusto Boal. The purpose of any forum theatre piece is to address a problematic social issue and in turn bring about positive change. Audience members begin by watching a scene that depicts the issue at hand and then have the opportunity to become apart of the scene and to try to positively change the outcome.
This PowerPoint is intended to introduce students to forum theatre. The presentation provides a definition of what forum theatre is, the characters involved, what happens during the performances and additional rules to follow.
Some potential topics you may want to address using form theatre include:
- Taking care of the earth
After viewing the Power Point, the class can select an issue that they believe needs to be addressed in the school and/or community. In small groups they can then create their own forum theatre piece to address this issue.
