NO PREP LESSON!
These Introduction to Integers Guided Notes are structured, engaging, and will help students on any level with any background to be successful. Your students will build a foundation of integers by using these guided notes.
The note starts with an I can statement and vocabulary section. You will then read the story Less Than Zero by Stuart J. Murphy. Students should each have a number line and a counter to move as the story is read to show how many clams Perry has saved and spent. It is helpful to pause through the story to discuss what is happening and how Perry’s amount of clams relates to zero. A number line is included in this purchase for students to use during the story.
Next in the note is a think-write-pair share about when students have seen negative numbers in their lives and a whole class activity. The notes then have a variety of examples including real world examples for students to work through. Depending on the needs of your students, these examples could be worked through whole class, in partners, individually, or a combination of all three options.
Each student should have a copy of the math note and will complete it with you as you teach your lesson. You can teach this lesson in a variety of ways. A digital version of the note is included in this purchase. This is a Google Slides presentation that breaks the notes into sections. The answers pop up as you click through the presentation. You are also able to connect your iPad, laptop, and projector using a program such as Doceri. This allows you to have the note projected onto the screen and you fill in the notes by writing on your iPad with a stylus. Another option is to fill in a copy of the notes under a document camera. There are many options when teaching with these guided notes and you have the freedom to pick what works best for you and your students.
Included in this purchase is:
- The guided note for students to complete during your lesson
- A number line for students to use with a counter as you read Less Than Zero that can be printed in color or black and white
- An answer key for the note that can be printed in color or black and white
It may be helpful to post the answer key after each lesson on your classroom page so absent students are able to access the answers to the notes.
These notes are an excellent way to teach your students whole class. They will meet the needs of students on all levels and will provide students a reference sheet for homework or reviewing for a quiz or test. They are also time-saving and help students to focus on the content since they are structured for students to fill in the blanks. These notes will help all of your students to be successful.
