This is what I present in my classroom on the third day of school. This presentation discusses the two major branches of science: Physical Science and Life Science as well as what falls under the scope of Middle School Life Science. This should also serve as a review of what NGSS Concepts were covered in elementary school.
This was created because middle school students often fail to understand the scope of what is covered in a particular subject. Prior to creating this lesson, one of the most common questions I got asked in my life science class was “Are we going to blow something up today?”.
Included in this package:
• PowerPoint presentation answering the questions “What is life science?”
• Cornell Style Cloze Notes to go with the PowerPoint (can be used on the right side of an interactive notebook)
• Venn Diagram foldable (can be used as a left side activity for an interactive notebook)
There is information regarding all NGSS Middle School Standards that are addressed in this powerpoint. However, I also use this in my high school Biology classroom because it serves as an excellent review of what was covered during Middle School. I suggest changing the title from "Life Science" to "Biology" if you are planning on using this for your high school classes.
