This is a great introductory lesson into microscopy and gets kids excited about science class. The worksheet gives students students to explore microscopy stations by drawing, describing, and trying to identify mystery objects under magnification. For this classroom activity, set up microscopes with various slides (freshly prepared or pre-made) and pre-focus them for students. Then allow students to circulate through the stations, drawing and describing what they see and guessing the identity of the specimens. At the end of the activity, reveal the identity of the specimens to the students- they may be surprised when they learn them! I use freshly prepared plant specimens from my garden for this activity, as well as household supplies like salt and sugar. It would work just as well with a set of prepared slides.
