The student will use the standard algorithm to multiply 2- and 3-digit numbers.
Are you looking for a systematic PowerPoint that will introduce your students to the traditional multiplication algorithm (for 2- and 3-digit numbers) in a logical, step-by-step manner? If so, this highly interactive 30-slide PowerPoint may be exactly what you are looking for! It is fully animated. Answers do not appear on the screen until the teacher clicks the mouse.
The PowerPoint It begins with a multiplication story problem that involves 2 two-digit numbers. Next, the acronym "Many Zoos... Many Animals!" is presented to teach students the sequence: multiply, zero, multiply, add.
After the introduction section, SEVERAL practice opportunities are presented. There are 6 problems that involve two digit factors, and 5 problems that involve a three-digit factor times a two digit factor. Ample support is provided in the form of arrows, and animated text boxes. (The PowerPoint is also fully animated, so that answers do not appear on the screen until the teacher has clicked the mouse.)
Students can write on the matching 2-page companion handout, recording answers, as you progress through the PowerPoint. At the end of the companion handout, there is an exit ticket where students can complete 6 problems independently. This can serve as a formative assessment to show you which of your students may need additional small group instruction.
