I adapted this activity from the case study collection from Buffalo to fit my human physiology course. In this problem based exploration, students are presented with a little boy's symptoms and they must determine what he has. Through their research, they learn about human tissue types, the importance of form & function, cell membranes and the movement of substances across a membrane. At the end of the exploration, students must write a letter to the parents outlining what the boy has and why, as well as possible treatments. It's a great introductory activity!
