Every year my first clay project with my 3D I students are clay whistles. It is the perfect introduction to basic handbuilding, pinch pots.
This worksheet explains the 10 necessary steps to create a clay whistle. It is meant to be paired with a demonstration and hands on help as needed. The worksheet is a great way to reduce "what is the next step?" questions, and act as a visual guide to how to properly assemble the whistles.
In addition to a visual aid this worksheet can also be used as brainstorming area. On the backside of the worksheet students are required to sketch 3 different designs for their clay whistles. This helps them plan how to incorporate the mouthpiece and hole into the design.
