This activity was designed as an introduction to proportions for a Math Support class. This activity activates students' prior knowledge of equivalent fractions and provides educators the opportunity to introduce the term "proportion."
There are 6 stations. Each station should have 2 bags - The first bags contain varying quantities of two items. The second bags contain varying quantities of only one of the items. Students must determine the quantity of the missing item in the second bag that would keep the ratio equivalent to that of the first bag. I've included a list of the items/ratios that I used, however, any ratios or items you've find around your classroom would work.
After finding the missing quantity, students must fill in a sentence frame to help solidify their understanding.
