This lesson is a fantastic introductory lesson to STEM in the classroom and particularly to STEM challenges and the Engineering Design Process. Students will learn the basic structure of the Engineering Design Process through multimedia whole class engagement.
This lesson includes a whole class discussion, viewing of a Crash Course Kids video, and demonstration of a simple engineering challenge going through the engineering design process. After the demonstration is a great time to go through and set up some rules for future independent STEM challenges.
By the end of this lesson students will begin to:
→ Identify the steps of the engineering design process
→ Evaluate the effectiveness of an engineered product
→ Explore properties and construction relationships of an engineered product
→ Negotiate criteria for success
In this resource:
→ 5 page lesson plan with Australian curriculum alignment
