Two introductory activities that ask students to write about their own understanding of the Vietnam War. Students start by thinking about what they know, and then they are asked to read two letters from Vietnam soldiers and an interview with a Vietnam soldier. The activities ask students to think and discuss the time period and begin to try to understand the mood of the time in connection with the realities of war on government, soldiers, and citizens. Students are asked to think critically, respond in writing, and discuss findings.
