Great way to introduce the difficult concept of cause and effect This worksheet uses concrete examples to help. Includes graphic organizer and a basic sentence frame. I used this with my 3rd/4th grade intermediate/advanced ESL students.
For shock value, I spilled water on the table to do a cause and effect demonstration beforehand. (The table is wet because I spilled water on it)
There is an example using pictures and the sentence frame. The rest of the activity follows suite. Students cut out the pictures and glue them down on the correct side of the chart in the correct pairs. They can check if they have it on the right side by plugging it the activities in the pictures into the frame.
After the chart is complete, the page with the sentence lines has the frame listed at the top. The students use the pictures they've placed in the chart to write the sentences: Effect because Cause. This allows for some creativity in describing the picture, but limits the ways in which the sentences can be put together.
