With the changing curriculum, it is imperative to involve indigenous perspectives into our modern teaching and learning. One aspect of Canadian history that we mustn't forget is the Indian Act and its impact on Indigenous peoples and cultures throughout the nation.
This PowerPoint gives a brief introduction to the Indian Act, and initiates inquiry learning by having students work in groups to research specific elements of the Act itself. My students loved being experts on a topic within the Indian Act, and this allowed them to make specific connections in their summative and formative assessments.
This is in a PowerPoint format, so you're able to customize it as needed to suit your class.
