This extensive slideshow introduces students to the Nazi Holocaust. Slides chronicle the basic concepts of the Nazi Holocaust and include photos and links to websites. None of the photographs are graphic. The basic concepts include: pre-war, anti-semitism, Hitler's rise of power, stages of Jewish persecution, and the aftermath of the camps. Utilize the free “cornell” method of notes (Introduction to the Holocaust Vocabulary) as a supplemental handout for students. Vocabulary words and definitions/examples included within slides are: Nazi Holocaust, Holocaust, Anti-Semitism, Aryan, Swastika, Nazism, Annihilation, Oppression, Persecution, Nuremberg Race Laws, Synagogues, Pogroms, Ghettos, Gestapo, SS, Genocide, Deportation, and Displaced Persons. The unit is taught in Literature class as an introduction to the Nazi Holocaust is meant to be a precursor to the reading of "The Diary of Anne Frank". It can certainly be utilized for a social studies class, as well.
