I love teaching genre units; it's one of my favorite things to do. My students and I have such fun, meaningful discussions every time I introduce a new genre because they truly enjoy sharing their own reading and viewing experiences as we analyze story details, trying to decide together which examples fall into the category we are studying at that time.
This product contains materials I created for my realistic fiction genre unit. With purchase, you will receive a PowerPoint with traits, definitions, examples, and links to realistic fiction movie trailers. You will also get the guided notes that accompany the PPT and a fun class activity. I also am including a T-Chart I use for students to track evidence of the realistic fiction genre traits as we, together, read a chapter from popular novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian...which they thought was entertaining. I encourage you to try it, but any realistic fiction excerpt can be used.
As always, please leave feedback for this realistic fiction lesson. I love hearing from my fellow professionals!
