I have developed a thorough procedure that I use with each and every paper I have my students write. This lesson is the first that I do each year, and I teach it with an introduction paper that I have them write.
This follows the inverted triangle and triangle format for introductions and conclusions, and it helps them understand the format as well as memorize it for future use. It can also help students read better by improving their understanding of the format of informational text.
It works best if your students have computers so that they can copy and paste, but it can be adjusted for paper and pencil writing.
