Description
Get rebuses, that are also INFORMATIONAL TEXTs, along with differentiated TESTS, and writing PROMPTs for five different inventors! In addition to studying about inventors and their inventions, students will use context clues and practice sequencing to achieve reading comprehension.
In this bundle, students will learn about:
- Inventors Marie Van Brittan Brown, and her husband, Albert, who invented the first home security system.
- Inventor James Watt and his improved steam engine.
- Inventor Thomas L. Jennings who found a type of stain removal that we call dry cleaning today.
- The Montgolfier brothers who were the first to invent balloon flight
- Inventor Thomas Edison and how he improved the light bulb.
Each lesson starts with students reading a short rebus about one inventor or inventing pair. But students can’t complete this reading passage until they place the correct words from the word pictures column into the gray boxes in the rebus.
The rebuses, tests, puzzles, and writing prompts can be completed in a web-based classroom or on an IPad if you use the Teachers Pay Teachers Easel platform. They also can be completed on paper in a classroom!
This curriculum works great in literature circles and science classes about inventors. In addition to helping students place a mixture of words in the context of a story and in the right sequence, these informational reading passages introduce students to the world of inventors and their inventions.
BONUS: Get crossword puzzles and word searches that together cover 36 different inventors.
Would you like a free sample rebus to see how well it would work in your classroom? Find a rebus at Simple Literature Book Club Flyer for Kids. Up to eight different rebus stories are included, one rebus per month, each school year!
