This is a PowerPoint presentation that leads your class through an investigation of magnets. It helps students to understand how magnets work with each other, what objects attract magnets, how magnets are used in everyday life, how a compass works, and what magnets do. There are 3 student experiments, 1 home experiment, 1 teacher demonstration, and 1 class project experiment. I've include resources such as books about magnets to use in class, student experiment pages for distribution to your class, a PowerPoint slide show to walk students through each experiment, and notes for how to use this resource. This unit is designed to meet the Virginia Standards of Learning about magnets but can be used in any state or country. I've also included resource links for purchasing magnet kits and magnetic carts (but these are not required to use this unit). Enjoy!
